In the lead up to Anzac Day, students got the opportunity to be one of the first schools to visit the Te Papa exhibition. It was an inspiring, moving and engaging experience.
We also completed our memorial crosses, erecting them out the front of our school. It's been a very successful mini-inquiry and many people passing by have stopped and taken the time to read the information on each soldier.

Anzac Memorial
On the first day back of Term 2, students were given the task of constructing a memorial cross to someone who died in the First World War. Afterwards, students researched the person they were making the cross for, using the Online Auckland Cenotaph - a database with information about the war dead - and Archway, New Zealand Archives. Students researched soldiers who died of Malaria to Victoria Cross winners who died in battle as well as a nurse.

Term 2
This term, students will be exploring more about Gallipoli, focussing on one part of the conflict they have chosen. They will use this information to write a poem using World War One poems as a guide. From week 4, we will begin to investigate what is required when building an eco house. This inquiry will see students researching, designing, making and videoing their model of their design.
