On Wednesdays at 11:00 we have gym with Abe. Abe is a coach from Big Air gym in Tawa and will be with us for 8 weeks. Firstly, we start off with basic stretches like bridge, dish, arch, pike, handstands and candle. From week three onward, we will be trying to beat a record for a handstand against the wall. The longest time is 4 minutes and 45 seconds by a boy from the discovery school.
After stretching, we get into groups and do a rotation of the gym equipment. The different types of equipment are vault, bar and beam.
There are two vault stations. One is a big blue 60cm mat and springboard that we do dive rolls and somersaults onto. The other vault station is a box top and a springboard. The box is setup longways and we do forwards rolls and straight jumps on it.
On bar we have to hold ourselves upside down in dish with our hips on the bar. Later on we will be doing chin-up circle overs, muscle ups, casts, cast backhip circles and maybe cast to handstands.
On beam, we are doing jumps,( like tuck,straight, star and split). Later we will be doing cartwheels, handstands and round off dismounts.
