Gallipoli

With the 100th anniversary of the First World War, we have began activities based around WW1. We have begun reading Scarecrow Army, an account of the Anzacs at Gallipoli.

The kids are hooked and have learned about how the first world war started,  events through time, as well as building vocabulary and a knowledge of peoples' experiences throughout that time.

The year begins

After quick introductions, students in Rata have got straight into the nitty gritty of school work. They have been focussing on two Key competencies - thinking and being a great group member - through brainstorms and hands on technology challenges. One of the challenges required groups to send a message propelled by a balloon along a 7 metre wire. They had 20 minutes to create their design. Some fantastic thinking about being a great group member resulted, even if none of the rocket messengers reached the other side of the room.
