On the City gallery trip we were accompanied by Alex's mother Ginny.
When we arrived we were greeted by Claire who was our guide for the day.
When inside we put our coats in a box and then we were introduced to the Hanging sky Exhibition which we would then look at.
After a 5 min look at some of the excellent paintings of clouds by Shane Cotton we were called down to explore the paintings with greater detail. We asked some questions and she asked us some as well.
After the questions we moved to more paintings of the Exhibition and then we were allowed to take a quick look at the paintings and were called down again for more questions and a better look at the paintings. Here is one of the paintings.
Afterwards we headed to the art room to create our own paintings of clouds. We were given aprons and sat down at the table. After we sat down we wrote our names on the back of the black paper we were given and then were shown how to use the stencils we were also given. To use them we had to use the dry brushing technique were we used a small amount of paint and painted using the stencils.
When we finished painting the clouds we could add a bird by printing it on with a Screen printer. Afterwards they were let to dry and were allowed to paint a second cloud painting without the bird. We are to receive the paintings soon.
How to use the dry brushing technique:
You get your paintbrush and put a little paint on it.
After you have paint on it dab it on the top of a plastic lid to spread the paint throughout the whole brush and to dry and use less paint.
You can now start dry brush painting.
This is a great technique because the painting dries quickly and it helps blending.
